Somatic Sex Education (SSE) and Surrogate Partner Therapy (SPT) are related sexual healing modalities

SPT and SSE address many of the same concerns relating to sex and sexuality in ways that prioritize pleasure and consent. However, there are a few vital differences (see table below). SPT focuses on partnership. SPT clients often (though not always) have little to no dating experience and would like to practice all the stages of the lifecycle of a relationship, from getting to know each other to sexual intimacy to saying goodbye amicably. SSE clients also explore and expand aspects of their sexuality but do not need the structure of a partnership or the psychological support of a collaborating talk therapist.
